Thoughts on The Knot and Blue Nile Q2 earnings reports

The earnings reports show the industry is still down yet showing signs of improvement. The Knot reported slight growth mostly due to online ad sales increases and the acquisition of a wedding supplies company. Blue Nile had a 5.2% drop in sales for Q2, which is better than the previous quarter. The company is benefiting from the closer and bankruptcy of other traditional jewelers. Sales expectation are flat or small losses for Q3 09.

I believe we are seeing the bottom of the big declines. We will likely see ups and downs for the next year or so before we start to see growth in spending. Unemployment has to improve before we begin the transition upward.
